“ | This Cathedral is damned, Daniil. Your project required a miracle to bear fruit, yet no miracle would ever happen within this empty shell of a temple. | „ |
— Yulia Lyuricheva |
The Cathedral (Собор) is a building located in the Bridge Square opposite the Crucible. It was commissioned by the Kain family and designed by Farkhad. Despite being a cathedral, it doesn't serve any religious purposes and does not function as a church.
Description
“ | No religious significance. The Cathedral was the Kains’ attempt to probe the mystical connection between space and time, in the hope of creating a structure inside which time would behave strangely. They succeeded. The most important thing in the Cathedral is the gigantic clock. This is what makes it the key building in the game—time being one of its key driving forces. | „ |
— Pathologic 2 artbook |
The Cathedral is one of the two buildings in town whose water supply is from the underground springs as opposed to the main water system, along with the Theatre. The Cathedral water comes from one of the hidden springs — the Cathedral's Stone spring. As such, the Cathedral is converted to an isolation ward when the water supply is under suspicion.
Pathologic 2
According to the townsfolk, the Cathedral has nothing to do with religion; instead, they claim that the Cathedral makes time. The Cathedral was the Kains’ attempt to probe the mystical connection between space and time, in the hope of creating a structure inside which time would behave strangely. Victor Kain says that all of the clocks in town serve as small Cathedrals. They don't measure time, but weave it. The Cathedral produces time, and the clocks distribute it. It is said that the Cathedral has been empty because time can only move on freely when there are no people around. The Cathedral's swinging pendulum can be accessed on the second floor, from which the player can save their game.
Plot
The Cathedral is where the Inquisitor takes up residence starting Day 7.
Pathologic
On Day 4, the Cathedral is turned into an isolation ward and will be locked on Day 5 with two people standing guard at the door.
On Day 6, the disease finds its way into the Cathedral, with everyone inside getting infected and later transferred to the Theatre. However, some people remained in the Cathedral due to succumbing to the disease. The guards believed that a Mara (a ghost or a demonic entity in Slavic folklore) sneaked into the Cathedral. They saw a long-armed woman wrapped in woollen rags shamble about the Cathedral, stroking the walls with her hands.
Due to these descriptions, several women become suspected of spreading the disease: Eva Yan, Lara Ravel, Anna Angel, Yulia Lyuricheva, Aspity and the Changeling.
On Day 7, the Inquisitor arrives and stays inside of the Cathedral.
Bachelor Route
On Day 4, Big Vlad suggests using the Cathedral as a place to quarantine people to protect them from infection. In order to do so, the Bachelor needs to inspect the building. When he arrives at the Cathedral, he finds that the building is locked. A woman standing near the entrance tells him that her cousin has the Cathedral Key, which he will need to obtain.
On Day 7, Eva Yan commits suicide in the Cathedral by jumping from the balustrade. According to Andrey Stamatin, she wanted to become the Soul of the Cathedral, but she wasn't aware that the construction was not intended to be a Focus. In one of her letters Eva said "she was going to purify the place for the new guest", with the place being the Cathedral and the guest being the Inquisitor. Maria Kaina explains that The Cathedral was a failure because it was "too human" for the bestial nature of the town: "...A cathedral without God, without faith... No miracle can settle a building like this"". Yulia suggests that the Cathedral is empty "because it was built before the religion was allowed to reach maturity".
The Bachelor meets the Inquisitor at the Cathedral. She tells him that there are informants around the Town that have been keeping records about everything that has happened and asks him to find them and bring their reports to her. After handing over the reports, it's revealed that one of the informants is a traitor. The Bachelor investigates the informants, discovers the traitor, and brings them to Aglaya, who then has the traitor executed.
On Day 8, the Bachelor goes to the Cathedral to speak with Aglaya. She informs him that The Powers That Be have lied to him and have already burned down his lab, Thanatica.
On Day 9, the Bachelor meets with Aglaya at the Cathedral, who asks him to investigate the Polyhedron.
On Day 10, Aglaya requests the Bachelor to obtain blueprints of the Polyhedron. After finding Peter Stamatin, the Bachelor obtains Peter Stamatin's Blueprints, which he brings to the Inquisitor. Later in the day, he visits the Cathedral once again to tell Aglaya about what is happening to the Kains.
On Day 11, the Bachelor receives a letter from the Inquisitor. Once again, Aglaya asks for more information about the Polyhedron and its relationship with the outbreak of the Plague. The Bachelor obtains Andrey Stamatin's Blueprints and brings them to her. After giving her the blueprints, Aglaya tells him that she suspects Maria was responsible for the bull that had been placed at the Bone Stake Lot. She will also give him a bottle of Panacea to give to Khan in exchange for information.
On Day 12, the Cathedral is locked in preparation for the meeting in the evening at 19:00. The Bachelor can join the Council at the Cathedral if all members of his Bound are healthy. Aglaya Lilich, Alexander Block, and Maria Kaina will be inside of the Cathedral. The Haruspex and the Changeling will also be there if the Bachelor healed all of their Bound as well. The Bachelor can climb the stairs and meet Eva Yan's apparition in the Cathedral. She explains that she wanted to inhabit this building and bring it to life, making it a miraculous place.
Haruspex Route
On Day 7, the Bachelor advises the Haruspex to visit the Cathedral to speak with the Inquisitor and argue his case. When he attempts to enter the Cathedral, the Haruspex discovers that the Inquisitor is currently not there. An Executor will inform him that the Inquisitor had gone to the Termitary.
After running around the Town searching for the Inquisitor, the Haruspex will finally find her back inside of the Cathedral. She informs him that the Abattoir has been opened again. After entering the Abattoir and creating a bottle of Panacea, the Haruspex brings it to the Inquisitor. She asks him to test the cure by going to the Theatre. After becoming infected and curing himself with the Panacea, the Haruspex returns to the Cathedral to tell the Inquisitor that it does indeed work.
On Day 8, the Haruspex receives a letter from the Inquisitor. She asks him to enter the Abattoir, although it has been locked again. After unlocking the Abattoir and entering it, the Haruspex is able to speak to Foreman Oyun. He then returns to the Cathedral to tell the Inquisitor what he learned.
On Day 12, the Cathedral is locked in preparation for the meeting in the evening at 19:00. The Haruspex can join the Council at the Cathedral if all members of his Bound are healthy. Aglaya Lilich, Alexander Block, and Capella will be inside of the Cathedral. The Bachelor and the Changeling will also be there if the Haruspex healed all of their Bound as well.
Changeling Route
On Day 5, the Changeling receives a letter from Capella who is concerned about a vision she had about something horrible happening at the Cathedral. The Changeling needs to investigate, but the Cathedral is locked due to the quarantine and the guards outside won't let her in until she gives them 20 bottles of water. She finds that everyone inside of the Cathedral is healthy and returns to Capella.
On Day 6, the Changeling becomes suspecting of being a Plague carrier because everyone in the Cathedral suddenly became ill and died the previous night. Yulia Lyuricheva tells the Changeling that she had given the Changeling three items the day before which were found in the Cathedral. The Changeling believes that her sister is the one responsible for bringing the Plague into the Cathedral.
On Day 7, the Inquisitor, Aglaya Lilich, arrives to Town and stays in the Cathedral. The Changeling wants to meet with the Inquisitor, but the door is locked. An Executor tells her that Aglaya has gone to investigate the Town and will not return until 12:00. Once Aglaya returns, the Changeling enters the Cathedral and talks to her about the Saburovs.
Starting from this day, the Changeling can talk to Aglaya every day and tell her that she cured a district in Town of the Plague if she found her twin sister. The Inquisitor will reward her with some money and medicine each time.
On Day 8, and for every subsequent day, the Changeling will receive a letter from the Inquisitor asking her to look for the Haruspex and warn him to hide. If the Changeling complies with the Inquisitor's request and warns the Haruspex, then she can return to the Cathedral and receive money and medicine as a reward.

On Day 12, the Cathedral is locked in preparation for the meeting in the evening at 19:00. The Changeling can join the Council at the Cathedral if all members of her Bound are healthy. Aglaya Lilich, Alexander Block, and the Changeling's sister will be inside of the Cathedral. The Bachelor and the Haruspex will also be there if the Changeling healed all of their Bound as well.

Georgiy Kain orders the Cathedral to be unlocked against the Bachelor's orders. A Tragedian explains that time within the Cathedral is frozen: the people who had spent several days there perceive it as though everything happened today. The Kains designed the building with the desire to alter, stretch, and compress time, but their attempt at challenging nature turned out to be unfinished and imperfect.
The Bachelor can see Tragedians staging a mime play in front of the Cathedral. By acquiring a Heart, he can trade with them which will prompt a dialogue.
There is also a camp behind the Cathedral in the Steppe set up by a small group of people from the Kin.
It is implied that Eva Yan committed suicide in the Cathedral, similar to the events in the Bachelor route in Pathologic.

Notes
- In Pathologic 2: The Marble Nest, time is literally frozen in the Cathedral, just as the Tragedian says. The clock will not progress.
- The background music slows and a distortion appears at the edges of the camera to convey this phenomenon.
