There are six stores that exchange goods for money in Pathologic 2. Three are recurring generic storefronts that appear throughout the town: Groceries, Pharmacies, and Tailors. The remaining three stores are unique: Bad Grief's Nest, the Broken Heart, and Var's Place.
All of the stores in question will receive refreshed inventories and purses each day at midnight. Daily store inventories contain a random assortment of their total inventories, so some items may not be available at particular shops, or on particular days. As well, some items do not become available until the game has progressed beyond Day 3, the details of which can be found on individual stores' pages. As with townsfolk who barter, the three generic stores (Groceries, Pharmacies, and Tailors) will refuse to serve the player if their district reputation is too low, however the three unique stores (Bad Grief, Var, and the Broken Heart) will offer their services regardless of reputation.
Virtually all items' prices increase as the game progresses, until all store prices plateau on Day 9. Food items' prices advance farther and faster than any other: By Day 9, all foods cost 640% relative to their Day 1 prices.
The Fellow Traveler's Dead Item Shop is another store of sorts, however its location varies, and he exchanges via barter, the details of which can be read on its respective page.
Grocery
- See Grocery
Groceries are one of the three recurring stores found throughout the Town (the other two being Pharmacies and Tailors). They sell virtually all foods available in the game. As with townsfolk who barter, Groceries will refuse to serve the player if their district reputation is too low. Grocery stores pay 33% less than all other stores for Bracelets, Pocket Watches, and Rings.
Unlike other Grocery stores, the one located in the Warehouses district will always accept the player's business regardless of reputation, for which it is aptly named the Shady Shop.
Spoiler warning: Significant plot details follow. |
From 07:30 until midnight on Day 6, the Grocery in the Backbone district will emit piano music, and if the Haruspex approaches it, it will feature a map marker titled "Something's wrong with this shop." Big Vlad can be found inside the shop, where he is feeling wistful for his late wife. He explains that when he first met Victoria, she bought a brooch at the shop, as it originally sold "knick-knacks and mementos." The shop was eventually converted to a storefront for Vlad's meat enterprise, and abandoned its souvenir sales. Big Vlad asks the Haruspex whether the shop should continue to sell meat, or be closed in memory of his wife. Should the latter be chosen, the shop will be permanently locked shut and labled on the map as "This shop has been turned into a shrine," and the "More Than Meat" achievement will be unlocked.

They sell an array of Drugs, Clothes, autopsy tools, and trade items available in the game. As with townsfolk who barter, Pharmacies will refuse to serve the player if their district reputation is too low.
Though not a typical Pharmacy, Var's Place houses the Chemist, whose prices and inventory are identical to those of other pharmacists. Despite Var's indifference toward player reputation, the Chemist will refuse the player's business if their reputation in the Bridge Square district is too low. Var himself offers a simplified version of Pharmacies' inventory, the details of which can be read on his page.
Spoiler warning: Significant plot details follow. |
On Day 5, the Haruspex will have the option of reporting the Chemist at Var's Place to Victor Kain on the basis that the Chemist has been embalming infected bodies in the Bridge Square. If he chooses to do so, this will prevent the Bridge Square from becoming infected the following day, however the Chemist's pharmaceutical services will be lost for the remainder of the game (Var's services will remain available to the player). |

The Broken Heart
- See Broken Heart
The Broken Heart is the local pub owned by Andrey Stamatin, an architect who moved to the Town many years ago. The protagonists can visit the pub to talk to Andrey and other NPCs as well as trade with the barkeep. The pub serves as an alternative means for buying most food with money, and is otherwise an outlet to sell herbs as a means of income. Unlike most other goods, herbs' value does not fluctuate as the game progresses (save a couple exceptions), nor does the pub's purse. The Broken Heart does not take player reputation into account when doing business.
Location
The Broken Heart pub can be found on the northern edge of the Factory district, where it abuts against a Pharmacy in the Hindquarters district.

An itemized list of the Broken Heart's inventory, as well as herb prices, can be found on its respective page.
Bad Grief's Nest
- See Bad Grief's Nest
Bad Grief sells an array of weapons, ammunition, and lockpicking resources that cannot be found in other stores. There is a small cabinet in the Nest that can be reliably used for storage throughout the game. Bad Grief does not take player reputation into account when doing business.
Spoiler warning: Significant plot details follow. |
At 07:30 on Day 8, Bad Grief will move to the Cathedral, and will ask the Haruspex to close up some of his old business in the Nest. Upon arriving at the Nest the Haruspex will find it inhabited by Barley the Barber and his men. The Haruspex can choose to leave Barley alone and retain the shady storefront, or kill the three inside and return to Bad Grief who will reward him with a Shotgun. If Barley is allowed to stay, he will have a refreshed inventory and purse similar to Grief's, however he will not receive more items or money during the ensuing days (but will also not lose what items/money he retains). Regardless of how the Haruspex chooses to handle the situation, once Barley has moved into the Nest, its save clock will be broken, and it will no longer be possible for the player to save there. The Nest's cabinet will still serve as a reliable means for storage. |

Var does not take player reputation into account when doing business, however his Chemist does.

Notes
- On Day 7, after the Inquisitor arrives, map hover for the Shady Shop changes from "In this shop, even outcasts can buy food." to "In this shop, food is still sold for money."
- The Inquisitor's arrival spurs dramatic economic change across the town. Food prices surge upward, but most other goods temporarily drop in value, to resume an upward tragectory on the following day.
