The Station

The Train Station (Станция) is a train station located in the lower end of the Knots Quarter.

Description

Closed at the moment.
The Station's subtitle

The Train Station is split into two parts: the Passenger Station and the Cargo Hold for humans and cargo respectively. As the Town exists in the rural space of the Steppe, the Train Station is the only way in and out of the town, both for people and for supplies. The Town maintains a regular shipment of meat and is sent other supplies that cannot be made or grown in the Town, such as medicine and nuts, in return. The Passenger Station is sparsely used due to interruptions of passenger trains caused by the Civil War.

Sometimes children gather at the station. It is a neutral ground in the war between the Soul-and-a-Halves and the Dogheads.

Corpus

Nobody could imagine any of the difficulties or terrible events that could come with the building of the railway that was bound for the north-west of the Mountain Knot. So the Local Administrative Council decided to go on with the project.

This decision was inspired by the rate of development of our country and the promising results of the geological survey. The scarce settlements of this area, most of which were built in the previous century, are basically cattle-dealing factories, and few of them became small towns. Theses towns’ inhabitants are a society that is quite unusual and paradoxically pretentious. Manufacturers, ethnographers, inspectors, anthropologists, descendants of the political outcasts and random visitors – all in all educated people – managed to peacefully coexist with the native inhabitants of the area, whose traditions haven’t gone far from the archaic social system.

The railroad project was meant to bring mutual prosperity to the area, so the Committee members were extremely surprised to see the coldness with which the local inhabitants reacted to the news. The engineers even encountered sabotage and open diversion on certain occasions, which resulted in whole large parts of the railroad being spoilt. They used to make sacrifice altars from the sleepers and spirals from the rails… These diversions were explained by means of blaming some dark tribes for them; however the investigation showed that the acts of vandalism were not performed without notification of the local authorities, they had actually been encouraged by rulers.

Nevertheless, the road was built and heavy goods trains started moving along it soon.

The administration’s indignation grew even greater when they received notifications one after the other, about three trains’ mysterious disappearance. However, the local rulers (the owners of the factories, to be more precise) were using their far-off position from the metropolis to bathe in autocracy. They denied having anything to do with the events. The disappearance of the trains they blamed on the evil will of the Steppe, which was worshipped by many tribes as an ancient mother. What could be done about that?

The North-western line has a bad reputation now. Once a month would some regular train roll down it, driven by a frightened man; having unloaded the mail, building materials and manufactured goods, it takes cattle and produce. Then something, half-man, a deaf and dumb sorcerer would ascend upon it. He drives the train through the dark Steppe, praying to the spirits and ancient gods, so the earth would not unleash its wrath for the ones that are taking the skins, hooves and meat of her slaughtered children.

And the Steppe answers with a groan. She breathes scorching underground steam in front of the train, and huge dark animals scour the area around it, moving close to the train, jumping at it, stepping over it, and bend their massive horned heads to the train’s top. They move with the train until the horizon fills with the vague outlines of scattered outskirts of the capital.

Bachelor Route

On Day 2, the Bachelor grants Alexander Saburov emergency powers. With those emergency powers, Saburov closes the Train Station, forbidding anyone from leaving the Town. The Bachelor may also attempt to leave Town with Andrey Stamatin, Peter Stamatin, and Eva Yan. However, when he arrives at the Train Station, he will find patrolmen standing around the train cars and none of the others will arrive. The Bachelor will be unable to leave the Town. This will happen regardless of whether or not the Bachelor has managed to give Saburov emergency powers.

On Day 9, the Bachelor can ask Commander Alexander Block about where to obtain several Rifles. Block will mention that there is a heavily guarded carriage containing rifles at the Train Station.

On Day 11, the Bachelor hears that Andrey Stamatin has been captured by the Army. After speaking to Block, he learns that there has been a mutiny and that it is likely Andrey had been taken to the Train Station. At the Station, the Bachelor will find several soldiers lined up, with the leader standing at the end.

Haruspex Route

On Day 1, the Haruspex arrives in a train car and is immediately confronted at the Train Station by three men. Due to a misunderstanding, they believe that he has murdered his father, Isidor Burakh, and attack him. The Haruspex defeats the attackers, but is wounded in the process. Later that day, Bad Grief will inform the Haruspex of another ambush at the station. He may choose to kill the men and take their valuables, which includes a Shotgun and Shotgun Ammo.

On Day 10, the Haruspex needs to talk to Grace, but discovers she is not at her home in the Cemetery. After some searching, he learns that Grace had been captured by mutineers to one of the wagons near the cannon at the Train Station. The Haruspex finds a wagon with a soldier standing guard. He must tell the guard the correct code given to him by Alexander Block - "four hundred and thirteenth" - to enter the wagon, within which he will find Grace and another soldier.

Changeling Route

On Day 1 the Changeling may find a Doghead named Lika at the Train Station who has been attacked by the Haruspex and is now wounded. Lika begs for her help. If the Changeling attempts to heal him with her hands, she will instead kill him. There are also two muggers by the train cars, waiting in ambush for the Haruspex, and the Changeling can kill them.

On Day 11, the Changeling must find the Bachelor in order to give him a package of documents from the Inquisitor. She learns that the Bachelor has gone to the Train Station in order to rescue Andrey Stamatin from mutinous soldiers. At the Train Station, there will be a large group of soldiers standing in front of an open, empty train carriage. If the Changeling approaches, they will become hostile.

Hiding at the rocks nearby the empty train car, the Changeling will find two other soldiers who are still loyal to the Commander Alexander Block. She must help heal the injured captain, after which a cutscene will play in which the soldiers defeat the mutineers. The Changeling then learns that Andrey and the Bachelor were able to escape from the Train Station.

On Day 1 the Haruspex arrives at the Train Station following several years of absence. When he steps off the train, he will be attacked by three men who believe that he was the man who killed Isidor Burakh. He will win the fight but be wounded. A Doghead, Lika, will have seen the whole thing. If the Haruspex asks, Lika will provide him with a tourniquet.

On Day 2, children gather at the Station. Should the Haruspex speak to the children, they will ask him to play the train summoning game with them. If he chooses to meet their request, the sound of a train will play, but no train will appear.

On the first two days, the townsfolk will stir, telling the Haruspex worrying tales of the supply trains having stopped. This will leave the Town with a shortage of medicine and - combined with the closure of the Factory - a shortage of some types of food, especially sugar. The shortage of such things will lead children to treasure sugar cubes, and later raisins, over all else. On the evening of Day 3, Lara Ravel will inform the Haruspex that the Passenger Station has been closed a for a year, while the Cargo Station closed only recently.

Spoiler warning: Significant plot details follow.
On Day 6, the Haruspex may find Measly and Thrush at the Station. They will suggest destroying the train tracks before the Inquisitor's train arrives. The Haruspex can attempt to do this by speaking to Bad Grief.

On Day 8, children at the Station direct the Haruspex to the Polyhedron, stating that he may now climb its steps. Khan and Capella can also be found at the Station. The Haruspex will be treated coldly, and asked to not bother them, for their affairs are none of his business.

If the Haruspex chose to leave the Town with the Inquisitor earlier on Day 10, she will be waiting on the Passenger Station platform during the early hours of Day 11.

Significant plot details end here.

Bachelor Route

On Day 6, the Bachelor must examine the blood of several of the Town's women in order to determine if any of them caused the Cathedral to become infected. One of the people the Bachelor must examine is Clara. Although he finds her with Katerina Saburova, he will be unable to take her blood. In order to do so, the Bachelor talks to Grace who then tells him to find Murky. Murky teaches him how to tell the difference between the real Clara and her sister, after which the Bachelor can find Clara again to take her blood.

On Day 12, as Murky is one of the Haruspex's Bound, there is a chance that an Executor will be stationed outside of her train car with Murky being infected inside. If the player wishes for the Haruspex to attend the Cathedral meeting, they must give Murky a Shmowder or a Panacea to cure her.

Haruspex Route

On Day 1, while investigating his father's murder, the Haruspex will be sent to Murky's Train Car to speak to Murky by Grace. Murky was one of the children who his father taught and she supposedly saw his father the night before he was killed.

On Day 8, Taya Tycheek will ask the Haruspex to find the ending to a story the Changeling told her in exchange for access to the Abattoir. By speaking to Capella, the Haruspex will be directed to Murky's Train Car, where the Changeling is currently residing. The Haruspex can then trick the Changeling into telling him the ending to the story by implying that the Soul-and-a-Halves thought the tragic tale was funny.

On Day 10, Capella will ask the Haruspex to check on Murky in her Train Car. Upon arriving, Murky will ask him to find her lost doll. Returning the doll to Murky will reward the Haruspex with a vial of Abattoir Blood and she will tell him that she found blood pooling at the base of the Polyhedron. Murky is also one of the children the Worms in the Bone Stake Lot ask the Haruspex to speak to.

On Day 10 Murky may be found infected in Murky's Train Car.

During the Nocturnal Ending, the Haruspex will be transported to Murky's Train Car following a conversation with Sticky.
